Ancient Pedal Loom Technique This mexican rebozo is hand woven, using the ancient pedal loom technique by Tlaxcala artisans in Mexico, using non stretch 100% cotton thread, that is very soft, flexible (no need to break it in) and breathable. Hours of work are involved in creating this piece to aquarie right pattern and lenght. The pedal loom is hand build by a Carpenter, according to the artisan needs. It has fixed meassures depending on what is going to be used for: rebozos, quilts, tableclothes. The process to assemble a roll of thread to be able to wave, takes 2 days. 100% Cotton Yarn Cotton Yarn is a breathable natural material that allows air to circulate, helping mantain proper body temperature. Cotton rebozos are soft, making them ideal to use for long periods, you won't feel itchi or irritatedCotton has a natural capacity to absorb humidity, allowing you to be more confortable Macrame Fringe A rebozos consists of two parte: the main part is the woven part made in the loom, traditionally made by men, and the fringe, knotted by hand normally by women. It takes about 4 hours to knot both sides of one rebozo. Ancient Tradition Rebozos have been used in Mexico as aid in pregnancy, wrapped around the belly, to act as pregnancy support belt to alleviate weight, presssure and strain on mom. During labor is used by doulas to help balance moms body and loosen ligaments to accive an optimal birth position, this is known as the rebozo manteada. After birth, it is used in sealing ceremony, to close bones and to carry. But it is a versatile piece that may also be used as clothing accessory: shawl, pashmina, blanket scarf, pareo, home decor: table runner, tapestry, wall hanging, table cloths, bed throw, for indoor/outdoor activities: yoga rug, prayer mat, play mat, beach mat, and more… Unique Piece Handwoven rebozos may contain weaving knots, pulls or other minor inconsistencies resulting from manual labor.
